Below you can find Biotech Academy’s digital material. This includes:
1) BioWiki – our collection of glossaries and technical terms.
2) Biostriben – our collection of videos and films describing the curriculum for both education levels.
3) The virtual laboratory – here you can try your hand at a wide range of experiments, which can be done in isolation or as part of our projects.
4) Biology Olympiad Quizzes – challenge yourself with questions from the Biology Olympiad on different topics
In addition to our teaching materials, we also offer experimental guides for experiments that are part of our course.
You can get an overview of them all right here.
Some of the experiments require special materials, which you can order free of charge from us. Below we have highlighted four of the experiments: The experiments with algae, enzymes and Pseudomonas fluorescence can be ordered via our form. You can read more about the last experiment, which is about biosensors, here.
Biotech Academy is a non-profit student organization under DTU Bioengineering. Biotech Academy offers free educational projects for elementary and high schools. All projects involve varying teaching methods and have a strong focus on assignments, exercises and cases. The organization works closely with researchers, industry, teachers and students during the development of each project. Biotech Academy has developed courses on a wide range of topics focusing on current learning objectives in the subjects of biotechnology, biology and chemistry. You can read about diabetes, stem cells, enzymes, fermentation, algae, bacteria, biosensors, CRIPSR/Cas9, photosynthesis, genetic engineering, beer brewing, protein synthesis, respiration, genes and much more. You can also watch videos on many of the concepts for primary and secondary school topics respectively.
Since 2006, we have been working to bridge the gap between research and communication. We are students with a deep passion for life sciences and the difference the field can make in the journey towards a more sustainable society. We are driven to share our passion with the next generation of students and work to increase student enrollment in science education.
Every year in week 42, Biotech Academy welcomes 30 high school students to DTU. High school students gain experience with various laboratory techniques, visit the biotech industry and learn about a range of concepts and theory. The application period is at the beginning of the school year and you can read more here.
The Biotech Academy’s operations are sponsored by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, and the individual projects are developed in collaboration with industry, professional organizations and foundations. Feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions.
