The healthy body

What is the healthy body?

According to the WHO’s 1978 report Primary Health Care, health is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease and discomfort.” This definition of health is unattainable in its perfection. However, it points out that health involves many aspects, including physical and social well-being. There is no clear and unambiguous answer to what health is.

One thing is for sure, you can affect the body’s functions and appearance in many ways through diet and exercise. If you don’t get the right diet, the body doesn’t work, and through exercise, you can improve the body’s properties, physically as well as mentally.

Exercise is generally a good thing for the body. Many studies indicate that exercise makes you happier, lives longer, becomes better at concentrating, and so on. So how do you best train? If the purpose is general health, there is basically no answer to this question. Keeping your body healthy through physical activity is easiest if you exercise something you think is fun. Whether yoga or football is the best way to keep the body active differs from person to person.

In order to improve the body’s properties, you must be aware of what you want to influence. There is a big difference between what you should eat if you want to improve your ability to concentrate or if you want to lose weight.

Ability to concentration

The ability to concentrate can be affected by diet and exercise. First and foremost, it is important that the metabolism works as it should.

In order to concentrate on something, it is important that the body’s enzymes function properly. It is therefore of great importance that you get the right vitamins and minerals.

It takes energy to concentrate. Therefore, the body’s energy metabolism affects the body’s ability to concentrate. A stable blood sugar level is important for the body’s ability to concentrate optimally. If you eat a lot of carbohydrates, it is difficult to keep your blood sugar stable. Some carbohydrates cause blood sugar to rise quickly, but blood sugar also drops quickly again, as carbohydrates burn in a short time. This means that there is a big difference in how high your blood sugar is even over short periods of time.

There is a difference between carbohydrates. Some carbs are faster to break down than others. Sugar from, for example, cola can be absorbed and burned very quickly by the body. You therefore get very large fluctuations in your blood sugar if you drink a cola. Carbohydrates from wholemeal bread cannot be absorbed as quickly by the body, and the fluctuations in blood sugar are therefore not as large when you eat rye bread as when you drink a cola.

To keep a stable blood sugar level, you should eat energy-rich food that does not cause large fluctuations in your blood sugar levels.

Fat burning

If you want to lose weight, it is not appropriate to have a stable high blood sugar. If the body constantly has access to relatively large amounts of sugar, it will use the sugar as an energy source instead of burning fat, as sugar burning takes place before fat burning.

Fat burning is relatively high when blood sugar is low. This happens in connection with long periods of sleep and after exercise, where you have burned large amounts of carbohydrates.

Losing weight is about an energy calculation that has to add up. Basically, you lose weight if you burn more energy than you consume through your diet.
