Training – physiological and biochemical changes

Summary: The teaching project, Training – physiological and biochemical changes, is aimed at 8th – 10th grade. This will give the students an understanding of what happens in the body at the molecular level when they exercise. Furthermore, it will provide an understanding of the importance of diet for the body’s functions.

It is an interdisciplinary teaching project that includes the subjects of biology, physics/chemistry and physical education. Through this teaching project, the students will learn about basic topics within human physiology, including the body’s circulation and muscle building.

Students will also learn about key parts of the body’s metabolism such as the glycolysis and citric acid cycle.

In addition, the teaching project contains practical exercises that the students can perform. The exercises are based on the training course and diet plan. The students must prepare their own training/health report, which is supported by exercises performed in physical education classes. The purpose of the exercises is to pick up on the content of the project after the articles have been read.

Have fun with the material!

Theory

Welcome to the theory section of the project.

Health and exercise are tools to achieve results with the body. There are countless guidelines for diet and exercise, but what should you believe in and abide by? What exactly is health and what is appropriate exercise?

The theory for this project provides an understanding of the importance of diet and exercise seen from a biochemical perspective. You can learn about the body’s metabolism of energy and gain a chemical understanding of how sugar and fat are used for the movement of muscles. In addition, you will gain insight into how diet and exercise can affect the body’s ability to metabolize energy. The material consists of 7 sections – they can be read in order or specific parts can be selected as needed. Select section by pressing the colored buttons below.

Exercises:

Welcome to the exercise part of the project.

This exercise culminates in an individual training or health report, wherethe student has had the opportunity to reflect on the adaptationof training exercises and diet for a specific purpose.

Here you will find four different report templates:

  • The healthy body” assumes that you have read the sections “The body’s metabolism”, “The circulatory system” and “The healthy body”
  • Cardiotraining” requires that you have read the sections “The body’s metabolism”, “The circulatory system” and “Fitness”
  • Performance” presupposes that you have read the sections “The body’s metabolism”, “The circulatory system” and “Performance”
  • “Musclebuilding” requires that you have read the sections “Body metabolism”, “Muscles” and “Muscle building”

It is recommended that the report template is printed and filled in by hand, as it may be necessary to draw on the template. Parts of the report can and must be completed immediately after reviewing the theory. Subsequently, it is necessary to have a practical module with access to sports facilities, where the students must test elements from their report. It may be necessary to divide students into groups to collaborate on the reports , so that the practical things againstul can be carried out in a class community. Tilslut afrundes rapporten i et teoretisk modul.

The report templates show what needs to be filled in before and after the practical session.

Report template: The healthy body

Report template: Good fitness

Report template: Building muscle
